Grades 3-8 visited the Engineering Expo last week at the Bryce Jordan Center.We were so lucky to arrive in-time to help stock Lake Perez with Rainbow Trout! Then, we had a super hike around the lake, followed by Arbor Day activities at Carolyn's Farm!This Friday we will be going to Coyler Lake to hike and boat! Then, we will return in time to have a presentation from Singer/Story Teller: Ken J. Galipeau (Grandpa to 2 of our students)Kindergarten helped clean our school yard :)Weekly Fact and Suggestion from Food Dude:Fact: $218 billion worth of food is thrown away each year.
Suggestion: Students will receive one piece of pizza at a time. When they eat all of that, they may have the additional piece ordered. Hint: Send in some ranch dressing for them to dip their crust.

Shelter building in Survival class:Our Bird Banding field trip experience with Paper Bird Creative & Education was so informative and cool! Check out the pictures and videos below:This Friday, we will hike around Stone Valley's Lake Perez followed by Arbor Day activities at Carolyn's Farm. As always, bring a refillable water bottle and a non-microwavable lunch.As part of the upper grades social studies unit, students are focusing on helping solve problems that exist around the world. Currently, they are taking a close look at the huge amount of food waste in our country. In an attempt to help this problem, the students have decided to help educate our parents and students by giving one bit of information or suggestion in our newsletter each week from the "Food Dude". Here is Kostyn and Tanya's Food Dude: Fact: The number of pounds of waste in the U.S. per year (not counting waste in homes) is over 72 billion pounds!
Student suggestion: Talk with your child about how much they'll eat. Did you know that most of our students throw more than half an apple away? Try apple slices instead. :) Survivor Class learns how to safely whittle with a knife and shoot a bow and arrow.Reading Buddies :)May 18th is the Kids Fun Run and Plant SaleWheels Day was awesome!This Friday, we leave school at 8:45 sharp to go see bird banding at PSU. We will be in the brush, so wear long pants and tall socks. Then, we will walk to Sunset Park for lunch followed by games and hiking. Dress for the conditions.Our students are so bright, they needed shades to rock the PSSA testing!Thank you to everyone for getting your kids to school on-time during the PSSA testing!Verna's class performing a lovely rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star: singing and playing the bells in music class.The older grades, lined-up and ready to watch the performance of Mummenschanz, which they really enjoyed! Ask them about it. :)Penn Roosevelt State Park hike and activities:This Friday is Wheels Day! Do not forget to bring a non-motorized mode of transportation to ride around the park, along with a helmet! According to the weather report, it will finally be warm too! Spring might actually be here...The older students have begun working on items for the "International Bazaar" in May. |
